Alumni Relations Officer

Position Summary:

The Alumni Relations Officer will drive the professionalisation and growth of SISBAA as an organisation under the leadership of the Principal and EXCO

General:

Shrewsbury is one of South East Asia’s outstanding international schools, with enrolment of over 1850 students from Early Years to Sixth Form, exceptional examination results and particular strengths in the creative arts, design and sport. The school has recently opened a new world-class senior school building which will allow numbers in the school to continue to grow. The school itself enjoys a delightful and spectacular setting, right on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the heart of Bangkok. The teaching environments are spacious, fully equipped and dramatic. The school is readily accessed by road and has its own boats, which provide an easy and quick link to Bangkok’s Skytrain and the city centre. The link with Shrewsbury School UK (www.shrewsbury.org.uk) is taken very seriously and, year-on-year, develops into a world-class educational partnership.

Key Responsibilities:

The Alumni Relations Officer will:

  • report to the Principal at Shrewsbury Riverside
  • create and maintain strong relationships with Governors, EXCO, Principals across SIA and the Bangkok Director of Marketing
  • develop high levels of engagement among the Shrewsbury alumni 
  • develop and then work closely with an alumni advisory board
  • seek the views and support of alumni in the development of the association
  • produce and execute a SISBAA development plan
  • develop and deliver a ‘class President’ concept and use as a key method of communication and engagement
  • produce and manage an alumni database
  • develop methodology for discovering alumni and reconnecting with students from the school’s history 
  • produce and lead an annual survey of alumni
  • design and deliver a SISBAA website/webpage
  • develop and deliver a SISBAA business network
  • work with Shrewsbury Outreach to ensure alumni are a key part of that important provision
  • work with Marketing Teams across SIA to ensure alumni make a positive impact on the students at Shrewsbury schools
  • support the development of marketing campaigns based on the strength of the alumni body
  • work with the Higher Education department at Riverside to develop a support network of alumni in the university application process 
  • consider and develop SISBAA merchandising

Tasks:

The Alumni Relations Officer will:

  • chair ARCO (Alumni Relations Committee)
  • deliver engaging events for alumni
  • organise and support the Alumni of the Year event at Riverside and ensure that the Hall of Fame is updated annually
  • produce a bi-weekly newsletter
  • deliver annual reunion weekends
  • deliver 5, 10 and 15 year reunion events
  • ensure close contact with alumni to produce ‘where are they now’ updates
  • attend annual trips to the UK and US with the Principal and HE team to deliver alumni events and support alumni at university

Qualification

Professional Expectations:

  • being an alumni of one of the Shrewsbury schools is preferred but not essential
  • Thai first language is desirable but not essential
  • have an understanding of international independent education
  • be a strong administrator and work to tight deadlines
  • have strong IT skills including traditional administrative platforms, website editing and the use of social media
  • be adaptable, flexible and resilient

Child Safeguarding:

Shrewsbury International School is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to

  • attend in-house Child Safeguarding programmes;
  • promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in the school;
  • report to the Head of Student Welfare any concerns they have for the welfare of a student. This may include unsafe practices witnessed within the school as outlined in the school’s Speak Out (Whistleblowing) Policy;
  • keep professional relationships with students where personal boundaries are respected and maintained;
  • seek advice from a Line Manager or Child Protection Officer with issues or concerns related to Child Safeguarding.

  • Confirmation of identity (Driving License / Passport/National ID card).
  • Satisfactory references
  • Verification of qualifications and work experience
  • Certificate or record of complete course of covid of an approved vaccine.
