Job description
General:
Following the success of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok Riverside where 1700 students study in one of Southeast Asia’s top performing schools, a brand new second campus has opened in the heart of the city in August 2018.
Shrewsbury International School Bangkok (City Campus) shares the same values, ethos and mission of the Riverside Campus and caters exclusively for primary aged children. 640 places will be available from Early Years 1 (Age 3+) to Year 6 (Ages 11+).
Both campuses come together to form Shrewsbury International School Bangkok and children from City Campus will graduate to Riverside in Year 7 (Age 12+).
City Campus is establishing its own unique identity and the two campuses integrate and liaise with each other creating exciting opportunities for both children and for staff.
The school operates on 25,000 sqm of learning space. There are 4 major buildings which have the capacity to fit 640 students. A dance studio, air con gym, canteen, swimming pools, football pitch and running track are all designed bespoke for primary aged children.
The classrooms are designed with flexibility in mind for different learning styles and collaboration. They are be fitted with Furnware furniture and Community Playthings; a natural environment creating an oasis in the city.

Introduction:

Candidate Profile:
The PE teacher with responsibility for swimming:
● will demonstrate leadership skills in promoting the school’s philosophy and policies;
● will be excited by a varied and creative approach to student learning;
● will have an in-depth knowledge of the British national curriculum, its assessment and its enhancement;
● will have a strong commitment to teamwork and be highly proactive in working with staff, students and parents;
● will be open, flexible and positive in reviewing and refining the curriculum;
● will show considerable tenacity in ensuring consistency across the year team and cohort;
● will possess excellent interpersonal and motivational skills and fairness in dealing with well-being conflict resolution and problem solving;

Qualification
Task:
The PE teacher with special responsibility for swimming:
● will have regular meetings with the SMT to update on planning and scheduling of the Swim Team;
● will work closely with the PE staff in leading the development work and planning to implement the swim curriculum;
● will develop the extra curricular Aquatics Timetable to ensure all available pool time is used to capacity, offering a range of aquatic activities.
● will plan regular meetings with the Shrewsbury Swim Team coaches;
● will ensure that training schedules are prepared for the squads;
● will fulfill the outcomes of the yearly training program.
● will coordinate, deliver and promote relevant activities, classes and events in swimming ie: swimathon, fun swim events;
● will attend all weekend swim meets attended by Shrewsbury at other International schools within BKK
● will ensure all entries and association administration for swim meet entries are completed
● will have the potential to train, support, develop and manage the swim coaches, TA’s and volunteer staff; (swimming and lifeguarding)
● will develop and update with the help of the coaches a rolling 12-month forward training programme for all of the squads;
● will maintain records and producing written reports on student swimming development;
● will develop links with national sporting representatives;
● will develop overseas swim trips and make connections with other overseas international schools;
● will periodically review the facilities Emergency Action Plan and Normal Operating Procedures (EAP & NOP);
● will increase the participation of students in the swim team and other swimming options outside of the curriculum.
Professional Expectations:
The PE teacher with special responsibility for swimming will:
● be familiar with The School’s Statement of Philosophy and Objectives and commit fully to its aims as identified in The Teachers’ Charter;
● be familiar with The School’s English Speaking Environment Policy, commit fully to its aims and promote its implementation on a daily basis;
● be familiar with The School’s English as an Additional Language Policy and commit fully to its aims and promote its implementation on a daily basis;
● be familiar with the contents of the Staff Handbook and The School Policy Compendium and implement the procedures as appropriate;
● commit fully to The School’s Performance Management programme;
● attend Professional Development (INSET and external) as determined by the Principal within the bounds set in the Employment Agreement;
● undertake Thai Language and Culture training as required by The Ministry of Education (Thailand);
● Have a strong understanding of the learn to swim pathway.
● will commit to The School’s extra-curricular programmes
● communicate with students, colleagues and parents in a respectful and courteous manner in accordance with the paradigms established by The Principal;
● will set the tone for students in attendance, punctuality, appearance, dress, courtesy and professionalism.
Essential Criteria:
● Swim England Level 2 learn to swim or equivalent
● Hold RLSS NPLQ (or have the ability to gain within 6 weeks of starting the position)
● have experience of managing a swim team
● Have a passion for teaching and coaching swimming
Child Safeguarding:
Shrewsbury International School is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to
● Attend in-house Child Safeguarding programmes.
● Promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in the school.
● Report to the Child Protection Officer any concerns they have for the welfare of a student. This may include unsafe practices witnessed within the school as outlined in the school’s Speak Out (Whistleblowing) Policy.
● Keep professional relationships with students where personal boundaries are respected and maintained.
● Seek advice from a Line Manager or Child Protection Officer with issues or concerns related to Child Safeguarding.
Requirements:
● Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) to the start of contract.
● Formal proof of identity with photo ID (Original Driving License / Passport).
● 3 signed, confidential references (one of which will be from the candidate’s current head teacher) before the start of contract.
● Verification of original qualifications.
