The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) is an autonomous inter-governmental body, mandated to develop and support the management of fisheries in the Southeast Asian region by rational utilization of the region’s aquatic resources to provide food security to the people through a balanced approach to fisheries and habitat management. The mandate of the organization covers both marine and inland fisheries.

SEAFDEC, with support from the SEAFDEC-Sweden Collaborative Program, is strengthening efforts to address the importance of integrating and coordinating fisheries management and habitat management and to improve management of fishing capacity to reduce over-capacity, destructive and illegal fishing. Priority sub-regions include Gulf of Thailand, Andaman Sea, Mekong River Region and Sulu-Sulawesi Seas and SEAFDEC supports regional cooperation through the implementation of sub-regional (and bilateral) agreements on fisheries and environmental management.

Job description

We are seeking for energetic and high caliber candidate to work with us as Andaman Sea Sub-region Coordinator, attached to the SEAFDEC Secretariat in Bangkok, Thailand..

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Coordinate closely with the SEAFDEC-Sweden Project Manager and SEAFDEC Technical Departments (e.g. MFRDMD, TD, and SEC) and provide management guidance in the execution of the project activities to ensure quality and timeliness of project works;

2) Facilitate works, prepare timely and quality project progress and implementation reports to the Project Manager for all activities in the Andaman Sea Sub-region;

3) Maintain records, with support of the concerned administration/financial staff, on technical and financial aspects of project implementation, including monitoring and evaluation of project activities and their outcomes; as well as minutes, decisions and recommendations of meetings and workshops conducted by SEAFDEC-Sweden Project in Andaman Sea Sub-region sub-region;

4) Support, monitor and facilitate the progress works of sub-contracts for field level activities and capacity-building in the Andaman Sea Sub-region;

5) Ensure smooth workflow of the SEAFDEC-Sweden Project through communication of the Project staff;

6) Finalize reports of all major events conducted under Andaman Sea Sub-region;

7) Prepare timely and quality project progress and implementation reports to the Project Manager for the Andaman Sea Sub-region;

8) Provide inputs to and assist Information and Communication Officer of the SEAFDEC-Sweden Project for the Project’s documents; and

9) Coordinate and maintain good communication with relevant international/regional/national initiatives.

Qualification

  • Male or female, with university degree or equivalent in science (in fisheries biology, marine science, fisheries management, environment management or related fields);
  • At least 5 years’ experience and knowledge in project management in the field of fisheries, natural resources management, or related field;
  • Experiences working in the ASEAN would be advantage;
  • Fluent in English, speaking, reading and writing;
  • Experiences in writing documents in English;
  • Skills to use necessary computer programs/tools to generate inputs to the project; and
  • Ability to travel outside Bangkok or to other countries, work independently with limited supervision, and accomplish multiple tasks within the deadline.
