Job Introduction

BBC World Service Group is an international multimedia broadcaster, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on radio, TV, online and via wireless handheld devices.   It uses multiple platforms to reach its weekly audience of 320 million globally, including shortwave, AM, FM, satellite, cable channels and digital platforms.  BBC Thai on Facebook was launched in July 2014 to bring impartial and balanced news to Thailand where media has been censored following a military coup.

To build on its success, a news site at BBCThai.com will be launched so to make our digital news offer more comprehensive and also to further strengthen BBC’s position in a market of 67 million people.

A team of journalists and producers in London and Bangkok are being recruited to report on the situation in Thailand for our audience of need in Thailand and Southeast Asia.  Thai Service also specialises in using Facebook Lives for special reports, and raising debates about Thailand-related topics on Google Hangouts/YouTube and engaging with many forms of social media.

This is a really exciting opportunity for a Video Journalist to edit video content for multiple outlets and digital platforms in the Thai service.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Thai Service Editor, your role will be to ensure that video content is published on time to the highest editorial and technical standards.  Proposing video ideas for the service, you will share and promote BBC Thai’s video across the BBC. You will maximise social media and other new platforms for promoting video contents in Thai and other relevant languages.

Qualification

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a fluent Thai and English speaker with demonstrable experience of working in video journalism, able to produce and edit high quality video content.  You will have knowledge of using small cameras and filing video from the field, as well as the ability to train and guide colleagues in this area.  A full understanding of the video production workflows used and Adobe Premiere, Davina, Jupiter, JexWorld, JFE, TopCat 2, the Journalism Portal and other tools and applications as required is essential.  You will have sound knowledge of current technical issues involved in production of video content and a demonstrable interest in new media technologies.  Comprehensive knowledge of Thailand and current affairs is fundamental.
