There are jobs in MICE!

MICE was in the news again yesterday – not those little four-legged creatures, but "Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE)".

According to the Bangkok Post story by Jiraporn Kuhakan, Thailand will need 20,000 new graduates to work in this sector which is likely to grow rapidly under the ASEAN Economic Community.

University students came out in large numbers to the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center yesterday for the Mice Academy & Career Day.

There is a lot to learn about the MICE industry as these university students found out at yesterday’s Mice Academy & Career Day at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

MICE is a big business, particularly for large hotels and convention centres and if your English (or Chinese or Japanese, etc.) is good, it should give a big advantage.

According to Wikipedia, MICE is a type of tourism in which large groups are brought together for a particular purpose.

Sometimes the groups come together for professional or educational purposes, but other times it is just for fun as when a big company rewards its best employees, for example.

The top jobs in the business involve lots of planning and persuasion since the host city or country must compete against other cities and countries, often several years before the event.

But if 10,000 people come to Bangkok for a MICE event, you can be sure there is lot of other work to be done as well.
