Job description

The Private Sector Fundraising Section, UNICEF Thailand Country Office, is seeking an individual consultant to provide technical support to the PSFR team in the temporary absence of a Chief of section. The support provided will be for all income streams and include strategic leadership particularly in increasing individual donor acquisition and retention, and also in the areas of digital, corporate and major donors.

 

Work Assignment:

  • Operational support - providing technical advice and leadership in fundraising. Responsibility for remaining on track to achieve an annual income target in 2015.
  • Monitoring of progress against annual work plan and targets for income and expenditure and regular reporting to senior management. This will include employing contingency measures to address any shortfalls, ensuring all activities in the plan take place according to the schedule and all reporting requirements to Office Management, the Regional Support Centre and PFP Geneva.
  • Providing technical leadership to the team in the area of donor acquisition, donor retention, major donor fundraising and corporate fundraising. This will include advising on:
    • Testing plans, the close management of Face to Face and telemarketing agencies and corporate pathways to pledge donors. A key task is the evaluation and subsequent planning following a test SMS campaign.
    • Close analysis of the performance of the donor file including advising on further analysis. Editing of fundraising communications materials to ensure they are as compelling as possible for both pledge and one-off donors; and advising on the reactivation and upgrade programme as matters arise.
    • Major Donor Fundraising - close monitoring and support during initial stage of beginning to profile the database, producing cases for support, researching potential donors and event planning.
    • Corporate fundraising – supporting a new corporate fundraising officer and advising on account management of existing corporate partners, strategic planning of approaches and pitches, responding to enquiries from companies and organising and leading the monthly Corporate Engagement Team Meetings for the office.
    • Digital Fundraising – Support the digital officer in ensuring that resources are focused on the right channels, finalizing the strategic plan for digital and monitoring against progress.
  • Emergency Fundraising - provide technical advice and support to the team during emergency appeals. This requires strategic advice on the scale of the section’s response and activities. Activities are not limited to but can include; the implementation of press ads, EDM and DM to existing donors, TV appeals with media partners, telemarketing, digital response and corporate outreach. Also updating the emergency preparedness plan.

End Product:

Submission of Monthly Progress report against assigned work assignment.

Estimated Duration of Contract: 4.5 months

Official Travel: The consultant will travel to/from Bangkok, Thailand, to carry out the assignment for entirecontract period. Also the consultant may involve occasionally travel for meetings.

Qualification

Qualifications or Specialized Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • University degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration or related fields.
  • High proficiency in English.
  • Seven years of professional fundraising experience ideally including proven experience of improving individual donor retention and acquisition programmes as well as new initiative approaches in fundraising.
  • Familiarity and having direct experience in Fundraising campaign management.
  • Working knowledge of corporate and major donor fundraising.
  • Strong analytical and budget management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Negotiates effectively by exploring a range of possibilities.
  • Translates strategic direction into plans and objectives.
  • Contributes and tries out innovative approaches and insights.
  • Knowledge of UN / UNICEF fundraising, an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment.
